Nuclear EnergyU-235 is one of the few substances whose atoms can be split to obtain energy (7), also known as fission. Uranium 235 is the main important fuel in producing nuclear energy and this report is all about nuclear energy.
Nuclear energy all starts when a neutron, part of the nucleus
of an atom, hits the nucleus of a Uranium-235 atom, which contains 235
neutrons and protons (7). The nucleus of the atom is split (fission)
and some extra neutrons are released. Some nuclear shortcomings are that waste happens at all times during the nuclear fuel cycle. (3). Radiation in the waste can stay for thousands of year. If people are exposed to any radiation they can get sick and die. A nuclear reactor cost more then a fossil fuel plant because of all the dangers. Nuclear plants can also blow up, so they are built in an isolated place. One advantage of nuclear energy is that, after it is built, a nuclear power plant cost less than a fossil fuel plant because it doesn’t use as much fuel as the fossil fuel plant does. Uranium 235 can be used over and over again (6).
Russia. The Chernobyl reactor blew up one time some years ago. This is probably the biggest disadvantage of nuclear power. They scare people because they can be dangerous. There are many nuclear reactors everywhere in the world and they produce a lot of electricity. One example is the reactor near Houston that is called the South Texas Project. The South Texas Project is one out of a lot of nuclear reactors in the United States. Seventeen percent of the world’s electricity comes from nuclear energy and the Unites States of America uses approximately a seven point nine percent average of nuclear energy by itself (10 & 8). The world has over four hundred nuclear reactors and the United States of America has over one hundred (8). Nuclear power plants use very little fuel and the nuclear fuel is the one of a kind fuel that can depart from itself, but since nuclear energy is dangerous, it is likely to go down in its
percent average. N people because nobody wants one near them and if nuclear reactor blows up people will not be able to live on that land for thousands of years. Nuclear energy is one of the scariest source of energy to use, but it may be used more in the future because it is usually safe and pretty clean. Sources 1. Nuclear energy, 2.”What Is Uranium?
