Below is a copy of an announcement for a week-long Cecil Taylor festival and symposium at Johns
Hopkins in Baltimore that is taking place this week from 4/30 to 5/5. 2 performances are scheduled
with Tony Oxley on 5/4 and 5/5. The web site for the event is listed at the end of the announcment.


The Program for Comparative American Cultures (CAC) and the Humanities Center of Johns
Hopkins University are proud to present a week-long festival in honor of the art of the renowned
composer, pianist, and poet Cecil Taylor, who is currently Distinguished Artist in Residence at the
Homewood Campus in Baltimore, Maryland.

Monday, April 30th

Seminar: "W.E.B. Du Bois, the Spirituals, and African American Traditions in The Souls of Black
Folk: Essays and Sketches" -- a public conversation with Cecil Taylor

Gilman Hall, Room 111. This session is held in conjunction with the seminar on W.E.B. Du Bois
led by Professor Nahum D. Chandler, Director of CAC and faculty in the Humanities Center at
